Slay suspect falls after 12 years

AFTER more than 12 years in hiding, the long arm of the law finally caught up with an elusive murder suspect Wednesday afternoon in Navotas City.

Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas said the arrest of Arturo Igana Jr., 28, fisherman, of Block 1, Lot 1, Ignacio St., Bacog, Bgy. Daanghari, was the result of several weeks of intensive surveillance and intelligence operations conducted by operatives of the Warrant and Subpoena Section led by P/SMSgt. Anthony Santillan.

Igana, who was considered as the No. 6 Most Wanted Person in Navotas, was accused of killing John Frederick Bacongan while the latter was walking on his way home in Bgy. Daanghari on July 23, 2008.

Balasabas said the accused, who has a personal grudge against the victim, attacked and stabbed Bacongan repeatedly in different parts of the body, killing him instantly.

After the killing, Igana went into hiding until Sgt. Santillan received a tip from their informant that he was frequently visiting his family in Bgy. Daanghari.

At around 3 p.m. Igana was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Malabon Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Anna Michella Cruz Atanacio-Veluz of Branch 169 for the crime of murder with no recommended bail for his temporary liberty.
