FED up with reports about erroneous modules, a party-list solon is urging the Department of Education (DepEd) to recall all the materials with questionable contents.
ACT-CIS Rep. Nina Taduran said the DepEd must investigate the officials behind these erroneous modules and they must be held responsible and accountable.
Taduran pointed out that at this time, students are relying much on modules due to blended learning that is why the content must be intelligent, promote good values and be informative.
Erroneous and questionable contents of these modules continue to surface on social media earning criticism from shocked citizens.
The House Asst. Majority Leader cites the post of international artist Lea Salonga regarding a module which says that a tattoo is a symbol of a criminal.
“In the said module, there’s a multiple choice to answer the question: “ang tattoo ay simbolo ng _______.”
Among the choices are: A. pagiging kriminal, B. pagkaalipin, C. kagitingan at kagandahan, D. pagiging mababa ng katayuan sa lipunan,” Taduran said.
According to Salonga’s post, the correct answer, based on the answer key of the module, is A. pagiging kriminal.
“Hindi ba ito nire-review ng central office ng Deped? Paano nakakalusot ang mga ganitong modules? Kung ganyan ang itinuturo natin sa ating mga mag-aaral, magtataka pa ba tayo kung bakit nahuhuli tayo sa ating mga kapitbahay na bansa at kung bakit backward na rin ang pag-uugali ng mga kabataan ngayon? Nawawala na ang moral values at nagiging judgmental,” Taduran pointed out.
The solon also cites another post on social media regarding a module that portrays farmers as poor people wearing tattered clothes.
“Walang respeto sa ating mga bayaning magsasaka ang pagsasalarawan sa kanila sa isang module na gula-gulanit at marumi ang damit ng buong pamilya ng magsasaka. Ilagay naman natin sa ayos ang mga itinuturo sa mga bata. Napakalaking challenge na nga ng pandemyang ito sa emosyonal at mental na kalagayan ng mga bata, dadagdagan pa ng maling kaalaman,” Taduran lamented.
Taduran insists that Deped should take immediate action and recall all the questionable modules.
“I-review nila at panagutin ang mga gumawa ng maling modules. Walang espasyo sa Kagawaran ng Edukasyon ang mga mali ang itinuturo,” she said.
