Solon wants ISPs to improve services

HOUSE Assistant Majority Leader and ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Niña Taduran on Sunday aired concern over the rising number of complaints on social media about Internet Service Providers (ISP) failing to deliver on their promised internet speed.

Taduran said this failure is tantamount to deception due to false advertisement.

“Connectivity is particularly important at this time when most of the transactions we used to carry out face to face are now done on the internet, like online classes, work, meetings and tutorials,” Taduran said.

“It’s not surprising that new internet subscriptions have increased in the past months due to the necessity of being online. It is lamentable that internet service providers seem to have capitalized on the situation by taking on more subscribers than their networks can handle. The situation is quite obvious, otherwise we won’t be seeing so many complaints from exasperated subscribers, paying high subscription fees but getting lousy service,” Taduran added.

Taduran called on the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the Departments of Information and Communications Technology and Trade and Industry to take action on this ineptness of ISPs in providing accurate service.

“The provider has to supply a service that works exactly as described in your contract. It is just right that people get what they pay for. Hindi yung naniningil kayong ISP’s ng mahal sa gumagapang na serbisyo. Kung ang kaya n’yo lang ay 5 mbps, huwag nyong singilin ng para sa 75 mbps ang subscribers nyo. That also goes to mobile phone companies with pathetic internet service,” Taduran said.

The Philippines has the fastest growing internet population but the worst internet service.
