The Sorsogon City District Jail (SCDJ) made a meaningful connection with the community through its newly launched feeding program, “Lugaw on Wheels.”
A team of six dedicated SCDJ personnel brought warmth and sustenance to over 100 residents in the communities of Sorsogon Rompeolas and Barangay Talisay. Families and children delighted in hearty servings of “lugaw,” a comforting rice porridge that symbolizes care and nourishment in Filipino culture.
The initiative, launched today, is part of SCDJ’s efforts to address hunger and promote better nutrition within the community. More than just a feeding program, “Lugaw on Wheels” aims to foster healthy development and strengthen the connection between the correctional facility and the public it serves.
“Service goes beyond the four walls of our institution,” shared by Acting Warden JCINSP LOUIE AGELO C. UNGRIA. “Through programs like this, we hope to uplift our communities and show that we are here not just to fulfill our duties but to make a positive impact.”
The program’s success is a testament to the power of small acts of kindness, with each bowl of lugaw bringing smiles and a sense of solidarity.
Stay tuned as SCDJ continues to roll out “Lugaw on Wheels” in the coming months, serving more communities with care and compassion.
