The spirit of volunteerism remains evident among the staff of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), especially during disasters and calamities.
It is also one of the core values promoted by the DSWD’s Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) – a program that encourages active community volunteerism.
As one of the Kalahi-CIDSS staff, Malu Catolin, a financial analyst from DSWD Field Office (FO) VI, finds fulfillment in applying the core values of the program by volunteering in the repacking of the family food packs for families displaced by Typhoon Odette.
“Indirectly I was able to help those affected by the typhoon,” Malu said.
Malu, who has been working at DSWD FO VI for more than a decade, is not new on the mobilization of the staff when a calamity or typhoon strikes.
At the height of the Typhoon Yolanda relief operations in 2013, she also participated as a volunteer in the repacking of relief goods for the typhoon victims.
“I acted as team leader for one day during the relief operations and most of the days in the repacking of family food packs,” Malu shared.
Malu is just one of the many DSWD employees who tirelessly commit to provide genuine service to Filipinos in need under the mantra, “Maagap at Mapagkalingang Serbisyo.”
