DEFENDING champion San Miguel Beer- Alab Pilipinas ended the year on a high note, winning a hard fought 77-71 decision over the Singapore Slingers in the ASEAN Basketball League Sunday at the Caloocan Sports Complex in Caloocan City..
Alab, still unbeaten in four matches, faced one of the best defensive squads in the league, and true enough, was locked into a tight ballgame with the Slingers.
Coming off a tough double-overtime loss to Hong Kong Eastern, Singapore looked to recapture the spark that brought them to a five-game winning streak, but it wasn’t meant to be.
PJ Ramos stood tall with 26 points, 17 rebounds and five assistswhile Renaldo Balkman chipped in 20 points and 16 rebounds for San Miguel Alab.
It was Alab's three-point shooting that won it over the Slingers, as the home team made three triples, with Ramos drilling in three.
John Fields led the way for Singapore with 35 points and seven rebounds, Jerran Young was also solid with 17 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks, while Xavier Alexander had a triple-double of 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
The Slingers dropped their second straight game, and the third overall in eight contests.
