HERE comes Northport Batang Pier.
After an alarming 0-6 start, the Batang Pier are back in a fighting mood that coach Pido Jarencio hopes will continue in their next three games and possibly, the playoffs.
Sean Anthony and Stanley Pringle delivered at crunchtime as the Batang Pier rolled to their second straight win -- 99-94 over Meralco -- in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Anthony finished with a team-high 26 points, including a back-breaking three-point shot with 24 seconds left that put the Batang Pier ahead, 97-91, after the Bolts threatened to 91-94 on a triple by Mike Tolomia.
Pringle added 24 points, highlighted by a three-pointer that made it 95-88 with 58 seconds left.
Import Rashad Woods and Mo Tautuaa also did well with 20 points and 14 points, respectively.
Tautuaa went 6-of-7 from the free throw line, including the two pressure-packed free throws with 1:28 left.
“The boys really worked hard for this win, Rashad (Woods) stepped in the second half,” said Jarencio, who hopes to bring his trademark never-day-die spirit to his wards.
“I talked to him (Woods) at the dugout and told him he needs to score, and he did,” added Jarencio.
“Baka makahabol pa. Habol lang, baka sakali umabot. BAsta one game at a time,” explained Jarencio, referring to the team’s remaining three games against Rain or Shine, Alaska Milk and San Miguel Beer in the elimination.
The Batang Pier ended a six-gamelosing skid when they defeated Columbian Dyip, 118-101, last Oct.6.
Two-time PBA Best Import awardee Allen Durham had game-highs of 37 points and 18 rebounds in a losing effort for the Bolts, who dropped to 1-6. Tolomia added 18.
