D-League: Revellers, boost bid; Altas win

CHE’LU Bar and Grill overwhelmed Ironcon-University of Santo Tomas, 92-80, to boost its playoff aspirations in the Aspirants’ Group of the PBA D-League yesterday at the JSCGO Gym.

Rey Suerte sizzled in the second half, dropping 17 of his game-high 27 points while Gab Dangangon debuted with 17 points as the Revellers booked their fourth win in seven contests.

The victory also allowed Che’Lu to move in a tie with idle Go for Gold-CSB in fifth place, just half-a-game behind of Petron-Letran (5-3) in the race for the last playoff berth in their bracket.

“This is a must-win for us,” said Revellers mentor Steve Tiu. “If we wanted to make it to the playoffs, we have to go hard for the win.”

The loss, the fifth in seven games, stalled the Growling Tigers bid to move closer in clinching a playoff spot.  Ironcon-UST fell in a tie with St. Clare-Virtual Reality in second place.

In the Foundation Group, SMDC-NU eliminated Wang’s Ballclub out of playoffs contention with a 102-71 victory, while Tonton Peralta dropped a career-high 33 points as University of Perpetual Help System Dalta downed CD14 Designs-Trinity, 86-75.

The Bulldogs and the Altas improved to 3-5 and 2-5 records, respectively.

Senegalese center Issa Gaye had 13 points and nine rebounds to pace SMDC-NU, while Niko Abatayo scored all of his 12 points in the first half.

“Good thing is we’re finishing strong and that’s a great sign for us. We’re playing better defense, moving the ball well, and the roles are being defined better,” said Bulldogs coach Jamike Jarin.
