COLUMBIAN Dyip leaned on a sustained offensive by a trio of gunners to subdue Blackwater, 102-90, and post its third win in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Friday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Rashawn McCarthy, CJ Perez and import Kaphri Alston provided the needed sparks to help the Dyip salvage the win that’s crucial in the cutthroat elimination of the season-ending conference.
McCarthy cut loose with points 25 and five rebounds, Perez 24 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Alston was just as impressive in his performance highlighted with 24 points and 20 rebounds.
In revving up their standings to 3-2, the Dyip have also rebounded from 125-120 loss they suffered at the hands of Talk ‘N Text last October 5.
The Dyip led from start to finish, and were at their best in the fourth when the Elite seemed to have lost their steam.
The closest the Elite could muster in the fourth was to move within 85-77, on Mike Cortez’s basket but Corpuz sank a quick while McCarthy followed suit with his own as the Dyip virtually sealed the win, 91-77, with still 6:30 remaining.
Fuller scored 26 points and 10 rebounds and Parks added 21 points but were not enough to avoid the Elite from falling to their third loss against a win.
The Dyip dominated the Elite right in the early goings, posting lead by as many as 11 points, behind the gutsy plays of CJ Perez who finished the opening quarter with 12 points.
Reden Celda made a quick triple right on the onset of the second period, then came back to score on a difficult drive as the Dyip stormed to a 33-18 lead.
Blackwater though slowly clawed back to the game with its unrelenting offensive and before the Dyip could react, the Elite were already within striking distance at 47-41.
That sent Columbian to push the panic button with only 20 seconds left before halftime.
The timeout paid off after Alston fished a foul from Aaron Fuller. He sank both freethrows as Columbian hit the turn with a 49-41 lead.
