G-for-G five stays alive

GO for Gold-CSB pulled off a surprising 107-87 win over Petron-Letran to keep its playoff hopes alive in the PBA D-League at the Ynares Sports Arena yesterday.

Roosevelt Adams tallied 29 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks as the Scratchers rose to 4-3 card, just half-a-game behind the Knights (5-3) in the race for the No. 4 spot in the Aspirants’ Group.

Petron-Letran pulled within 92-81, with 3:50 left, before Adams answered with nine straight points for Go for Gold to put the game beyond recall at 101-84.

“This is what I expect from him. This is the reason why I got him,” said Scratchers coach Charles Tiu of Adams.

Earlier, St. Clare- Virtual Reality hammered also-ran McDavid, 93-82, to press its playoff bid in the Aspirants’ Group.

In the Foundation Group, Kevin Gandjeto scored 29 points, including the marginal free throw in the final 12.4 seconds, as Diliman-Gerry’s nipped Marinerong Pilipino, 86-85, to join Cha Dao-FEU in fourth place with a 4-3 card.

The Saints improved to 5-2, and now sit in third spot at the Aspirants’ Group and more importantly, atoned themselves from a tough 90-91 defeat to the Knights last week.

That painful loss was a thing of the past for St. Clare coach Jinino Manansala, who is focused on getting his side to make it to the playoffs.

“Kami naman, itutuloy lang namin ang trabaho namin dahil hindi pa kami sigurado sa next round,” said Manansala. “Marami pang puwedeng mangyari.”
