COMEBACKING Laguna College of Business and Arts defeated San Pablo College, 71-56, to open its campaign in the sixth Laguna Colleges Universities Athletic Association (LACUAA) basketball tournament on a bright note at the Sta. Rosa City Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Sta, Rosa Laguna.
Handled by former University of Manila player-turned-coach Winston Sergio, the Calamba City-based school leaned on the hot hands of Mark Joven Alcantara, Jonas Herrera and Johnedel Gecolea to subdue San Pablo College.
Alcantara topscored with 18 points for the Lycans, followed by Herrera with 11 points and Gecolea with 10.
Kevin Carlo Tizon and Mel Robin Salazar carried the fight for San Pablo with 12 points apiece.
LACUAA president Prof. Arnoldo M. Dilig and founding chairman Leonardo “Ding” Andres declared the tournament open.
Sta. Rosa City Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas, who represented both Congresswoman Arlene B. Arcillas and Mayor Dan Fernandez, delivered the inspirational message.
Kristine Charlotte Hammond of Collegio de San Agustin was voted as Ms. LACUAA 2018.
Earlier, Dilig and Andres awarded the trophies to last year’s champions Asia Technological School of Science and Arts (senior) and Citi Global College (junior).
The tournament is supported by Pocari Sweat and Phillips Gold.
