MANILA leaned on the duo of Mark Christian Yu and former PBA player Joseph Yeo to beat Valenzuela, 112-98, and clinch top seed in the North in the the Metro League Open basketball championship at the Parañaque Sports Hall.
Yu exploded with 31 points on a respectable 14-of-18 shooting , while Yeo added 24 points, four assists and three rebounds topower the All Stars of coach Adoe Salazar and Mayor Joseph Estrada to their seventh win against one loss in the tournament organized by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and supported by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Two other mainstays -- Jay Mark Mallari (17 points, six rebounds and five assists) and Kenneth Acibar (10 points and nine rebounds) starred for Manila’s victory.
Dan Anthony Natividad finished with 33 points, nine assists and four rebounds and Christian Charis Chua had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Workhorses who played minus ex-pro Erwin Sta.Maria.
Gianne Paulo Rivera and Allan Richard Martin also contributed 11 points apiece in Valenzuela’s losing cause in the event, which has “mobile app ng bayan” Barangay 143 as presentor, Spalding as the official ball and Team Rebel Sports as official outfitter.
Overall, Manila performed better with 50-of-90 field goal shooting (55 percent) against Valenzuela’s 37-of-86 (43 percent).
