FOUR wins and counting for three-time champion St.Clare College-Caloocan.
Finding little opposition, St. Clare posted a lopsided 133-57 win over newcomer National Teachers College to extend its winning streak to four games in the 18th NAASCU men's basketball tournament at the RTU gym in Mandaluyong.
The Saints set the theme of the rout right in the opening period and buried their opponents with an avalanche of baskets in the final three quarters enroute to a record 76-point winning margin.
So unforgiving were the Caloocan City-based Saints of NAASCU founding president Dr. Ernesto Jay Adalem and multi-titled coach Jino Manansala that they outscored NTC, 71-18, in the middle periods to establish a whopping 69-point lead, 103-34,
Michael de Leon, CJ Catura and Dave Tecson scored 16 points apiece and Russell Fuentes and Alexander Junsay added 12 points each to underscore the Saints 'balanced scoring.
St. Clare swept its first three assignments over Enderun Colleges (96-72), Philippine Merchant Marine School (81-76 ) and Holy Angel University (119-60 ).
Tyrone Carl Sabert and Rhyan Baluyot paced NTC with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
St. Clare completed a double celebration by whipping St. Francis of Assisi College, 92-68, in the junior division at the Enderun gym.
John Evert Dayrit scattered 19 points, including five triples, while Stephen Catacutan added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Baby Saints, who remained unbwaren in four games.
The 15 participating senior teams are divided into two groups with the two best teams in Group A and B advancing to the quarterfinals outright with twice to beat advantage.
