NINGBO University of China  posted  its  fourth straight win by beating   Farmco University of Malaysia, 97-72,  to grab the solo lead in the 10th Asian University Basketball Championship (AUBC)  baskeball  tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.

Five  players  scored  in double  figures for  the  coach Chen Chang Chun- Chinese team, which  continued its dominance in   this six-team tournament organized  by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP)  and supported by the City of  Manila, headed by Mayor  Joseph Ejercito and Manila Sports Council head PBA legend Phillip Cezar.

Li Chen Luan topscored for Ningbo University with a game-high 27 points, followed by Zhi Kang Zhu with 20 pounts, Yin Gru Wui and Ye Jian Guan with 15 points apiece and Hui Lin  Fan with 12.

Chin Terk Wei finished with 20 points for Farmco University, which  fell to 2-2 win-loss mark.

Ho Yeow Loong added 14 points for the Knights.

Ningbo University will   officially claim the title tomorrow even  if  they loss to Amur University of Russia, which suffered  its  second straight loss to Nippon Sports Science University of Japan, 75-78 , for a  2-2 win-loss card.

The  Japanese  played just hard enought in the last quarter  to beat  the Russian  for their first win after  dropping  their first three games.

Hikaru Doi fired 19 points and Yuta Kounu and Hiroaki Isoniu had 12 points each for the Masahiro Fujita-mentored Japanese squad.

Roman Shilin scored 21 points for the  Fighting Bears, who  will colide with  Ningbo  University  on the last day of the tournament.

Anton Shillin and Zalogin Vitali  contributed 18 and 17 points, respectively, for Amur State University.

In the first game , University of Perpetual Help  Jonelta System won  by default over Technological University of the Philippines to improve their record to 2-2 card.

The Vic Escudero-mentored Saints can finish second place behind eventual champion Ningbo University if  they   beat Farmco University of  Malaysia and Amur State University loses to Ningbo University tomorow.  AA
