Perpetual sweeps Letran

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help Jonelta System-Binan completed a twin kill by blasting Letran College-Calamba  in the men’s and juniors division in the 20th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) South basketball tournament at PCU gym in Dasmarinas. Cavite.

Handled by  multi-titled coach Victor Escudero, the Saints leaned on the troika of  Allen Papa, John Angelo Rosale and Sean Dillon Laban in crushing the Knights, 92-43,  for  their nine straight win in the tournament organized by NCAA Southern Tagalog and hosted by PCU-Dasmarinas.

Papa scored with 20 points, Rosale had 18 points and  Laban added 16 points for the Binan City-based which is being fully supported by owner Dr. Antonio Laperal Tamayo and athletic director Steve Salazar.

Paulo Paras and Arvin Lescano  contributed  12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Saints, who are coming off a third-place finish behind Ningbo University of China and Amur State University of Russia in recently-concluded Asian University Basketball Championship (AUBC).

The Saints beat one-time AUBC champion Nippon Sports Science University of Japan, 83-74, and Farmco University of Malaysia, 75-65 in the six-team tournament .

Assisting Escudero are Merlin Custodio and Sports Coordinator Edward Lirio.

In the junior division, the defending champion Junior Saints got double-digits scores from five mainstays  to demolish the Squires, 100-25, and complete a 10-game sweep of  the elimination round.

Chandler Cada topscored for UPHS-Calamba with 19 points, followed by Carl Canet with 17, Jazelle Cardeno with 15 and Michael Joseph Homo with 13.                AA
