Revellers stay alive

May 20, 2019

CHE’LU Bar and Grill held FamilyMart-Enderun scoreless in the final 2:57 to fashion out a 77-72 victory and keep its playoff hopes alive in the PBA D-League yesterday at the JCSGO Gym.

Jeff Viernes was clutch again, drilling in a three-pointer to give the Revellers a 75-72 advantage with 43.5 seconds remaining.

The Titans tried to turn things around in the next possession but two costly turnovers did themselves in.

Jesse Collado then scored two foul shots in the last 6.5 seconds to seal Che’Lu’s come-from-behind victory.

Alfred Batino had a double-double showing of 14 points and 17 rebounds and had two assists to lead the Revellers in nailing their sixth win in nine matches in the Aspirants’ Group.

“Yung sa akin, we wanted to play as a team,” said the soft-spoken Batino.

Now tied with Petron-Letran in third spot, Che’Lu’s progress of making it to the playoffs will depend on how Ironcon-University of Santo Tomas (6-2), Go for Gold-CSB (5-3) and St. Clare-Virtual Reality (5-3) will fare in their remaining elimination round assignments.

Ponzo Gotladera hit a floater for a 72-65 FamilyMart-Enderun lead at the 2:57 mark, but the Titans could not buy a basket from there.

Viernes and Rey Suerte each scored 13 markers while Jhaps Bautista chipped in 10 points for the Revellers.

Earlier, SMDC-NU ended its season with four straight wins via a 100-74 dismantling of University of Perpetual Help System Dalta.

Dave Ildefonso paced the Bulldogs with 20 points, six rebounds and three assists, John Lloyd Clemente contributed 16 points and four boards in a reserve role, while Patrick Yu scored 13 markers.

Senegalese big man Issa Gaye came through with double-double effort of 11 points and 16 rebounds to go with three blocks.
