San Miguel, Meralco clash

WHO will advance to the semifinals of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup?

Who will pack their bags and finally go home after more than a month at the bubble?

The answers will be known today when defending champion San Miguel Beer and Meralco clash anew in a no-holds barred, no-tomorrow encounter at the AUF Sports Arena.

The winner of the 6:45 p.m. showdown will earn the right to meet top seed Barangay Ginebra in a best-of-five semifinal encounter.

Ginebra defeated Rain or Shine, 81-73, to clinch the first semis berth in the 12-team restart.

Although beaten 71-78 by Meralco in their Friday the 13th encounter, San Miguel hopes to rediscover its winning touch in time for the sudden death match against a dangerous and determined opponent.

But San Miguel coach Leo Austria hopes to do it with an injury-hit lineup worsened by the sidelining of Alex Cabagnot in the playoff opener last Friday.

Already playing minus June Mar Fajardo and Terrence Romeo, who are both dealing with injuries, and Marcio Lassiter and Chris Ross, who are playing hurt, the Beermen also lost Cabagnot.

“My concern is the condition of the players. We’re not healthy,” said Austria.

Meralco coach Norman Black hopes to take advantage.

“I’ve noticed the shooting of the teams are starting to go down a little bit. Maybe from playing every other day so you have to focus on defense if you want to win,” said Black.
