MARINERONG Pilipino seeks to secure a playoff spot in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup as it takes on Asia’s Lashes Tomas Morato today at the Ynares Sports Arena.
Gametime is at 3:30 p.m.
The Skippers benefitted from the sudden withdrawal of Nail Talk last Friday as they now hold a 3-0 card in Group A, and are a win closer of securing a ticket to the next round.
Behind the stellar play of veterans Eloy Poligrates, JayR Alabanza and young forward Jhonard Clarito, Marinerong Pilipino came through with 91-82 victory over AMA Online University last August 8.
Coach Yong Garcia, however, refused to rest on his laurels as the Skippers need to improve their cohesion for the tougher wars ahead.
“Marami pa kaming dapat ayusin dahil yung chemistry talaga ang key para sa amin,” said Garcia.
In other games, Technological Institute of the Philippines sets its eyes on locking up a top two spot in Group B when it battles cellar-dweller Alberei at 1:30 p.m., while Hyperwash shoots for back-to-back wins against McDavid-La Salle Araneta in the third game at 5:30 p.m.
With a playoff spot in the bag after winning four of five games, the Engineers are determined to clinch the twice-to-beat advantage heading into the quarterfinals.
”It’s going to be big for us,” said TIP coach Potit de Vera after a 110-99 win over Black Mamba last Thursday. ”We want to have that momentum before going on a long break.”
The Engineers have won their last three games.
TIP, however, will most likely miss the services of Senegalese big man Papa Ndiaye, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.
