MARINERONG Pilipino makes its last stand to make it to the PBA D-League playoffs as it faces University of Perpetual Help System Dalta today at the Ynares Sports Arena.
The Skippers need a victory in the 2 p.m. Foundation Cup tiff against the Altas to stave off elimination.
“At least ’yung chance nandyan pa. Kailangan na lang nating makuha ito dahil ’yung chance, wala na sa kamay namin,” said Marinerong Pilipino coach Yong Garcia after last Thursday’s 88-85 overtime win over Metropac-SBU.
For now, the Skippers (4-4) must first hurdle the Altas.
Should Marinerong Pilipino prevail, it needs a Far Eastern University loss to Centro Escolar University on May 23 to advance into the next round.
A loss would eliminate the Skippers from the playoff race for the first time since joining the league 2017.
Although the Altas (2-5) are out of the running, coach Frankie Lim wants nothing but to see his side end their campaign on a winning streak after their 86-75 victory over CD14 Designs-Trinity last week.
“Gusto ko ’yung fact na nage-execute kami. Little by little, parating na kami sa gusto namin na magandang team,” he said.
CEU seeks to bolster its bid for top seeding in the Foundation Group as it battles also-ran Wang’s Ballclub in the day’s other game at 4 p.m.
At 6-1, the Scorpions have already secured twice-to-beat advantage in the playoffs.
