BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare and Marinerong Pilipino look to finish off their respective PBA D-League Foundation Cup semifinal foes today at the Paco Arena.
The Saints defeated Centro Escolar University, 86-70, last Thursday, extending their winning streak to eight this conference.
If he will have his way, coach Steve Tiu wants the Saints to go all out in the 3:30 p.m. duel with the Scorpions.
“Gusto na namin tapusin para maka-Finals ulit. Pero sinasabi ko, one game at a time,” said Tiu.
Beating CEU would mean so much for St. Clare in its bid to avenge its semifinal loss to the Scorpions last conference.
“Gusto nila din makabawi sa CEU dahil na out sila last conference. Yun yung challenge sa kanila,” Tiu said.
The Skippers have also already taken care of business in Game 1 of the best-of-three affair with a 98-80 decision of Technological Institute of the Philippines last Thursday.
The Skippers now have the opportunity to enter the title round for the first time in the 1:30 p.m. game, but coach Yong Garcia isn’t leaving things to chances.
After all, the Skippers have that tendency to relax just like what happened last time around when they nearly lost a 32-point lead and allowed the Engineers to come within nine points in the payoff period.
Thanks to ex-pro Mark Yee, Jhonard Clarito and Jordan Rios, the Skippers averted what could have been a disaster.
“Masaya dahil nakuha namin ’yung Game 1 pero kailangan pa rin trabahuhin ang Game 2 dahil hindi pa tapos ang series,” said Garcia.
“Kailangan pa ng corrections dahil noong third quarter, medyo nag-relax kaya nakadikit sila.”
Victories by the Scorpions and the Engineers will force their respective semis series to Game 3s slated on Thursday.
