Soldiers gun down foes

August 12, 2019

ASIA'S Lashes needed a huge third quarter to beat Nail Talk, 77-62, and rediscover their winning ways in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena yesterday.

The Soldiers outscored the Unicorns, 31-10, to erase a 26-32 lead, turning  it to a 57-42 advantage entering the payoff period and never looking back.

Asia's Lashes raised its Group A record to 2-1 to stay within striking distance of co-leaders Centro Escolar University and Marinerong Pilipino, both sporting 2-0 marks.

"Lagi kong sinasabi sa mga player ko, kailangan yung intensity natin sa defense. Iyan ang priority namin. Yung offense, darating din iyan," said Soliders coach Alvin Grey.

"Sinasabi ko sa kanila na walang mahinang team sa D-League. Lahat ng teams dito, gustong manalo," he added.

In the other Group A encounter, Jonas Villanueva earned his first coaching victory as iWalk downed Hazchem, 90-76.

"Sobrang iba ng playing and coaching. We are still learning and it's a challenge for me. Eventually matututo ako sa dami ng games," said Villanueva, a former pro and a Far Eastern University standout.

With the Chargers already in the win column, Villanueva hopes that his troops will get better as the conference goes on.

"Everything is a progress," said Villanueva.

Jhygrus Laude led Asia's Lashes with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals while Rickson Gerero and Francis Camacho each scored 10 markers.

Rudolph Meinlam logged a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds while skipper Christian Diaz added 12 points, five boards, three steals and three assists for Nail Talk.

Wowie Escosio led iWalk with 22 points and six rebounds while Jasper Parker added 12 points and three steals.

Hazchem fell in a tie with idle AMA Online Univeristy at 1-2.
