S+A 23 yesterday morning showed the replay of the classic Nov. 21, 2015 game of the Season 78 men's basketball Final Four thriller between Ateneo and FEU.
On that day, Mac Belo hit a dagger triple and became a Tamaraw legend, helping his team to a thrilling 76-74 win over the Blue Eagles to clinch another Finals apprarance at the jampacked Smart Araneta Coliseum.
FEU eventually captured its 20th championship at the expense of University of Santo Tomas.
In the afternoon, S+A had a rerun of the April 16, 2016 women's volleyball match between Ateneo and University of the Philippines.
Led by a mix of veterans Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon and rookies Isa Molde and Tots Carlos, Season 78 was the last time the Fighting Maroons were in the semis, where they took on an Alyssa Valdez-led Lady Eagles looking for a three-peat.
The Battle of Katipunan duel ended with a sweep by Ateneo, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21, to forge another title showdown with La Salle. The Lady Spikers ended the Lady Eagles' reign in the Finals that went into distance.
Expect more replays in the coming weeks, not only for basketball and volleyball, but also in football, and the previous seasons' baseball and softball Finals.
All of UAAP's second semester sporting events remains suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The league is now looking for alternative format for the collegiate tournaments, which are intended to begin no later than May 1 - if the government declares safe to resume classes on April 15.
The league last played on March 9, when Nazareth School of National University retained the high school boys basketball championship behind closed doors at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
