Henry Iloka of La Salle Araneta is about to go for a shot against Arvie Bringas of Hypwerwash in the third period of their game on Monday night. The Vipers won.

HYPERWASH beat McDavid-La Salle Araneta, 144-138, in a game where both teams hardly showed a semblance of defense to boost its playoff bid in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena.

JR Cawaling unleashed a conference-best 48 points, to go with seven assists and three rebounds in a reserve role to guide the Vipers to back-to-back wins.

A former Far Eastern University standout, Cawaling's outburst is now the second-most in PBA D-League history, behind James Martinez' 58 points for AMA Online Education in the 2016 Aspirants' Cup.

More than anything, Hyperwash boosted its chance of advancing to the quarterfinals with their even 2-2 slate in Group B.

Coach Joel Palapal, however, wants his Vipers to improve  their defense, which was almost non-existent in the free-wheeling game.

"Ngayon, iwo-work namin yung depensa. Kasi yung binigay naming puntos, talagang mataas. Hopefully makabawi kami sa depensa sa next game," said Palapal.

Hyperwash's 144 points is the most points scored in a game, topping Tanduay's previous all-time mark in its 141-65 domination of Zark's Burgers back in the 2017 Foundation Cup.

The 138 points scored by McDavid-DLSAU is also the most points for a losing team, eclipsing the previous high of 106, both set by Cagayan Valley, in a 107-106 loss to Racal in the 2015 Foundation Cup, and Wang's, in a 110-106 defeat to Caida in the 2016 Aspirants' Cup.

Combining for 282 points, both teams also bested the previous all-time high of 230 in Racal's 140-90 triumph over Zark's Burgers in the 2017 Foundation Cup.

The scores:

Hyperwash (144) -- Cawaling 48, Montilla 28, Casajeros 24, Fortuna 15, Bringas 15, Dadjilul 8, Mirza 2, De Ocampo 2, Ferrer 2, Julkipli 0, Cariaga 0.
