XAVIER School routed Philippine Cultural College, 111-79, even as Jubilee Christian Academy toppled erstwhile unbeaten Grace Christian College, 69-62, in the Tanduay Athletics-Metro Manila Tiong Lian (MMTL) Alumni 40 years old and above basketball championship at the Tanduay gym last Dec. 7.
Jean Michael Alabanza, Robert Libongco and Glen Ong scored almost at will as all 13 players fielded in by Xavier coach Jessie Angchonghoo.managed to contribute in tge Stallions' third win in four outings in the nine-team tournament featuring top alumni players from leading Filipino-Chinese schools in Metro Manila.
Alabanza finished with 18.ponts on a prolific 9-of-12 shooting in less than 16 minutes, Libongco added 16 points with four triples and Ong controbuted 16 points for Xavier, which posted its third straight win after an opening-day setback.
Cesar Wee also had huge numbers with 13 points, 13 assists and six rebounds for Xavier.
Jowelle Domingo had 22 points, Richard Rondael had 14 points, six assists and three rebounds and Ho had 10 points and nine rebounds in PCC's losing effort.
So dominant was Xavier that it made 50 percent of its shots (47 of 93) compared to PCC's 35 percent (29 of 82).
The Stallions also had more rebounds (61-46), more assists (27-12), more steals (12-7) and less turnovers (22-20).
Earlier, Jubillee Christian nearly squandered a huge 33-point lead but held on to beat Grace Christian in a low-scoring contest and improve.to 2-2 win-loss.
Lester Ong fired 21 points, Jeffrey Go added 10 points and seven rebounds and Argel So had nine points and six assists for Jubilee, which raced to a commanding 40-7 lead early in the second quarter.
Grace Christian, however, scored 22 unanswered points to make it 29-40 at halftime.
Dexter Quan led GCC with 16 points and nine rebounds, followed by Edwin Yap with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The event is organized by MMTL president Christian Tan with Johny Tam as alumni operations head and Horacio Lim as the commissioner.
