PROFESSIONAL boxing made a successful return with four action-packed matches billed as “Kumbati 5” at the IPI Compound in Tingub, Mandaue City last Oct. 7.
The blockbuster card presented by Jerome Calatrava of the Omega Sports Promotion marked the return of pro boxing industry in the country as part of the new normal during the period of the coronavirus pandemic.
Carlo Bacaro won by technical knockout over Jeffrey Stella in one of four exciting fights.
In other results, Christian Araneta won by unanimous decision over Richard Rosales; Penitente Apolinar outpointed Jetro Pabustan – in another unanimous decision; and Ronie Mark Vicelles defeated Junuel Lacar by knockout in 1:47 of the fourth round.
GAB Chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra lauded the successful return of pro boxing in Mandaue.
“GAB appreciates the hard work of Omega Sports Promotion for initiating it and by serving as a prototype for other pro boxing promotions to come,” said Mitra.
Mitra said the promotion followed the Joint Administrative Order (JAO and the GAB Health Protocols during the fights.
Boxers and ring officials were subjected to isolation just like in a bubble for 14 days before the fight and swab testing and rapid tests.
Strict health protocols were also implemented in the weigh-in and during actual fight day.
