Thurman: I’ll destroy Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman
PACQUIAO, THURMAN: Facing off on July 21.

Like in the first leg of their two-city press tour, Keith Thurman went on an attack mode, talking  like Thanos (of the Avengers fame) as he promised to destroy Manny Pacquiao.

“I’m destroying the legend of Manny Pacquiao. His legacy ends on July 20 and mine begins,” boasted Thurman on Thursday in Los Angeles during a presser that marked the end of a promotional tour of their title bout set two months from now in Las Vegas.

“He’s an inspiration to many people throughout the world, and everyone respects him. But I’m respectfully going to finish him,” added Thurman, who is unbeaten in 29 fights and is making the biggest bout of his career.

The American from Florida described the Filipino senator as a “bunny rabbit”, eliciting a grin from Pacquiao, who was all ears as Thurman started his verbal attack the moment he came up to the dais to speak.

Pacquiao calmly listened as Thurman  brash-talked, like a politician lending an ear to a constituent who lost a dear one in a strong earthquake.

When it was his turn to speak, Pacquiao, delved on the kind of fight he wanted from his rival when they battle for 12 rounds on July 20 (July 21 in Manila) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“Keith Thurman is aggressive and throws a lot of punches. I’m hoping he will follow through with what he says and fight toe-to-toe with me,”said Pacquiao, who has 61 wins, seven defeats and two draws in a shining record that has made him one of the greatest fighters of his time.

The American is 10 years younger at 30, but the Filipino said he’ll show he’s going to look younger inside the squared ring come fight time.

“He said he’s young, but we’ll see who looks young in the ring on July 20. I’m going to let my fists say everything for me,” the Pacman said. “My experience will be very important for this fight. It’s going to be useful against him.”

It was at the airport, and not at the Beverly Hotel in Los Angeles, where Pacquiao finally opened up about the trash-talking he got from his foe.

“I would like to teach him a lesson,” he said while awating to board the plane inside the LAX Airport lounge.

With under eight weeks remaining before the big fight, Pacquiao is already looking forward to his return to America on June 15 for the final push of the preparation at the Wild Card gym in Hollywood.
