Almost P15 million worth of sports equipment from the Philippine Sports Commission will be given to the local government units of Davao del Norte, Iloilo, and Ilagan, Isabela as hosts for Batang Pinoy.
This was announced during the signing of Memorandum of Agreement and press conference yesterday.
PSC chairman William Ramirez led the formal signing together with Davao del Norte Provincial Sports & Youth Development Head Giovanni Gulanes, Iloilo City sports coordinator Moises Salomon and Ilagan, Isabela general services officer Ricky Laggui at the PSC Administrative Building in Manila.
Ramirez said that, “as our host LGUs cooperate with us in the staging of Batang Pinoy, the PSC is also eager to help them produce home grown talents by supporting their grassroots sports programs.”
All LGU hosts expressed their commitment to underatke hosting chores for the event and have also promised their city and province’s support to PSC projects. “We thank the PSC for supporting our LGUs and choosing us to host Batang Pinoy,” said Gulanes.
A total of 19 sports—archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, dancesport, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and indoor and outdoor volleyball— will be played on the three qualifying legs.
Teresito Fortaleza, the head of the national secretariat said that “ futsal has been added to the qualifying legs where before it was only played in the finals.”
Fortaleza added that “nine other sports namely cycling, gymnastics, judo, muaythai, rugby football, triathlon, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu will be played straight to the national championships.”
