REGISTRATION is still open for the last leg of the “Search for Kid Grandmaster” online event scheduled on Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. thru Lichess.
Barangays Achieving Through Chess (BATCH) founder Eduardo Madrid underscores the importance of organizing tournaments/activities for the kids in order to discover more young and talented players who could someday become grandmasters.
Assisting Madrid in the project is Vic Alfaro, vice president of BATCH, which is pushing the idea of searching for kid grandmasters in the country.
BATCH is affiliated with the NCFP.
Among the qualifiers in the first and second legs are: Kaye Lalaine Regidor and King Whisley Puso of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, Vincent Ryu Dimayuga of Lipa City, Batangas, Thyrone James Tabernilla of Imus, Cavite, Franiel Angela
Magpily of Makati City, Maria Kristine Lavandero of Cebu City, Keith Adriane Ilar of El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental and Gladimir Chester Romero of Tanauan City, Batangas.
A total of 12 finalists will be ready for the championship set on Jan. 31, 2021.
In the third leg, the format will apply the seven-round Swiss System with 15 minutes no increment for each player to finish the game.
Cash prizes will be at stake and only four qualifiers will make it to the finals.
