Chiang Kai Shek stays unbeaten

January 09, 2019

CHIANG Kai Shek College  made it four wins in a row by edging Xavier School,  52-46, in the Tanduay  Athletics-Metro Manila Tiong Lian  (MMTL) Alumni  40 years old and above  men’s basketball championship at the CKSC gym in Manila.

CKSC scored the last six points -- two each by Ronnie Ong, Rodel Ng and Kim Ho Hui -- to shatter the  game's last deadlock at 56-all with still 4:20 left and escape with its fourth straight win in this nine-team tournament sponsored by Tanduay Athletics.

The six-point swing by CKSC came after J. Richmond Cua of  Xavier nailed  a three-point shot to tie the score for the last time at  56-all.

But Xavier failed to score again and watched CKSC score the final six points.

Ho Hui led CKSC with 13 points, while Ong added 10 points and Ng contributed eight points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Cua finished with 11 points for Xavier, which dropped to 3-2 overall.

In the other game, Jubilee Christian Academy  used  a  strong third-quarter run to beat Philippine  Cultural College,  68-54, to join Xavier with 3-2 win-loss slates.

Lester Ong flirted  with a triple double with 13 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists and Argel Sio had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for Jubilee, which  outscored PCC, 22-5, in the third quarter to win pulling away.

Richard Rondael, Alex Austria and Joeelle Domingo combined for 35 points for OCC, which remained winless in five outings.

MMTL president Christian Tan said Wednesday’s games in the 50-above category were re-scheduled on the last day of the eliminations to give way to the observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Johnny Tam is operations head,  while Horacio Lim and Roger Sia  are  the commissioners.
