THERE will be two more weeks to file nominations for the third enshrinement of sports heroes into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame.
This decision to move the deadline to Sept. 30 was reached after the screening and review committees met yesterday at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Bldg. at he Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
PSC Chairman William Ramirez, who sits as Chairman of the Selection Board, led the discussions, where timelines, guidelines and parameters were reviewed by the body which also included Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Chairman Abraham Mitra, Philippine Olympians Association President Akiko Guevara and National Sports Association representative Bernie Atienza of the Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas.
“We have to be careful and thoughtful on selecting the next hall of famers,”reminded Ramirez after discussing the gravity and importance of bestowing the title on anybody.
The nomination is open for athletes, coaches and trainors who achieved between the years 1924 to 1984.
Anna Christine Abellana, head of the Hall of Fame secretariat, informed that nomination forms as well as the guidelines and criteria are posted publicly.
“You may access them through the PSC website and FB page,”she said.
This was the first time the screening board met with the review committee which was represented in the meeting by Tabloid Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) President Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight and Jun Lomibao of Business Mirror.
They will be joined by Philippine Sportswriters Association President Dodo Catacutan of Spin.Ph, PSC-POC Media Group head June Navarro of Philippine Daily Inquirer, sportswriter Randy Caluag and two others scribes.
