A TOTAL of 500 Indigenous Peoples are set to see action in the fourth leg of the IP Games that will be held on Oct.27-29 at Kapangan, Province of Benguet.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Charles Raymond A. Maxey, who oversee the IP Games project, bared that this leg has the most number of entered participants.
“Everything’s set for our fourth leg. The games will be held in the Municipality of Kapangan as requested by Benguet Governor Crescencio Pacalso,” Maxey said.
The planning and coordination meetings started as early as August where various stakeholders from the Provincial Sports Office, Kapangan Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), and Local Tribal Council were involved.
Benguet Provincial Sports Coordinator Dean Mark Monang revealed the traditional sports and games for competition which include pakwel, sidking aparador, sidking bado, patintero, tiklaw, prisoner’s base, palsi-it, kadang-kadang, ginuyudan, kayabang, pangke, sanggol, pallot, dad-an di pato, sungka, and dama.
The Kapangan Tribal Council, particularly the elders, will lead the demonstration of Kin-notan, Chinese entrance, and inamagan di kuba.
Maxey, meanwhile, thanked Kapangan Mayor Manny Fermin for accepting the hosting of the IP Games.
“We’re very excited to witness the culture of the peoples from Benguet,” he added. Pacalso and Fermin are also expected to grace the opening ceremony set 8 a.m., Saturday.
The Indigenous Peoples Forum and IP Photo Exhibit and Photo Contest will also take place in conjunction with the Games.
