Israeli GM rules Knights and Queens online chess

Steinberg: solo champion.

GM Nitzan Steinberg of Israel emerged as champion in the first Knights and Queens Speed Chess Challenge online tournament last April 5.

Steinberg finished with 80 points to clinch first place in the tournament presented by the Knights of the Square Table and United Queens Chess Club.

The 22-year-old Haifa-born Steinberg edged Filipino IM Joel Pimentel,  who finished with 79 points.

IM Daniel Quizon came in third with 68 points.

Completing the top five finishers were Eric Labog, fourth with 66 points, and FM Alekhine Nouri, fifth with 65 points.

Top female -- WGM Janelle  Mae Frayna

Top senior --  Gary Legaspi.

Top kiddie -- Michael Concio Jr.

Top 2000  and bellow -- Syrel June Coleta

Top 1850 and below --  Precious Heart Tupaz.

The online attracted a total of 630 participants,  including 331 registered players.

Major sponsors are Engr. Julio Trunio Jr. and Capt.  Tonaldo Banaag.

Online chess tournaments are fast becoming a craze not only in the country but in the whole chess world  as the coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) pandemic spreads around the world and keeps millions of people indoors.
