JARVEY Gayoso and Matthew Custodio found the back of net as the Azkals Development Team pulled off a 2-0 victory over Mendiola FC to earn its first three points in the Philippines Football League at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
After a couple of narrow one-goal defeats in the bubble, ADT finally found a way to score a breakthrough.
“We had to go to the bench at the end and mix some things up because for our development players, we need to show them how to win games as well,” said ADT coach Scott Cooper.
“We’ll see about the next game and think about these players’ development,” he added.
Gayoso, a two-time UAAP men’s football champion from Ateneo, finally scored his first PFL goal, producing a 73rd minute header over Mendiola FC goalkeeper Kenry Balobo to put ADT ahead.
“He took his goal very well, it showed some good movement,” said Cooper on Gayoso.
Nine minutes later, Custodio pounced on a Balobo error to double ADT’s lead.
Mendiola FC, which suffered a 0-6 blowout loss to powerhouse United City FC last Sunday, remains without a point in the tournament presented by Qatar Airways and sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board.
