UNITED City FC completed its first signing for the 2021 season with the transfer of Anthony Pinthus from the Azkals Development Team on a permanent basis, the club announced Thursday night.
As the reigning Philippines Football League champions braces for its much-anticipated debut in the 2021 AFC Champions League, having the Fil-Swiss goalkeeper in the roster will provide the needed stability for the team.
Pinthus, who played for the 30th Southeast Asian Games two years ago, was among the young players that the club has acquired from the national under-23 standouts last August.
After winning the PFL crown in the Carmona bubble last November, UCFC lost Manny Ott, who will have his next stint in Malaysia, as well as OJ Porteria and Dennis Villanueva, who have signed for Thailand’s top-tier clubs.
While it tries to fill in the vacancies left by these players who were major contributors in last year’s championship run, UCFC is looking
forward for the AFC Champions League group stage draw set on Jan. 27.
Keeping the UCFC core of the PFL’s top three goal scorers in Bienve Marañon, Mike Ott and Robert Mendy, as well as skipper Stephan Schrock is the club’s priority for another shot at the title.
