THE long and difficult search for the “Manny Pacquiao of muaythai” begins on March 27 with the staging of the WBC: Ultimate Muaythai Challenge at the Metro Walk in Pasig City.
The country’s top muaythai fighters will battle it out in 12 action-packed matches organized by Sapaksi, Inc. as part of the launch of a four-city national competition aimed at raising the popularity of the sport.

“We will hold three more events in June, November and December. Hopefully, we can bring international muaythai fighters to compete in the fourth and final leg also scheduled in Manila this December,” added Elvina, who was accompanied by WBC Muaythai Philippine representative Erwin Tagle and Zhie Vallega.
The event is sanctioned by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), headed by Chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra.
“GAB fully support this Ultimate Muaythai Challenge, which is being held under the auspices of the World Boxing Council. The search to find the best muaythai fighters in the country is really a worthy endeavor,” said Mitra, who also attended the launch.
