Angels seek 6th straight win

PETROGAZZ stakes its pristine slate in a rematch with BanKo-Perlas, while defending champion Creamline hopes to finish the first round in second place against winless BaliPure today in the PVL Reinforced Conference at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Coach Arnold Laniog stressed that there’s no room for complacency for his Angels, especially a lot of teams are determined to elevate their level of play in the second round.

“Hangga’t hindi pa tapos, hangga’t hindi pa namin nakukuha ‘yung pinaka-goal namin as a team, tatrabahuhin pa namin,” said Laniog after PetroGazz completed a five-match sweep of the first round.

The Angels seek a repeat of their 25-19, 25-21, 25-12 dismantling of the Perlas Spikers last May 29 in the featured 4 p.m. match.

Brimming with a lot of confidence with the return of coach Tai Bundit, the Cool Smashers try to extend their winning streak to four in the 2 p.m. duel with the Water Defenders.

American 5-foot-8 reinforcement Janisa Johnson knows that despite its lofty standing, PetroGazz still has a lot to improve on its game.

“It’s a great feeling for me because all our hard work paid off. We still have the second round to go, but we have to push even more. But this first round and the results are amazing because we worked hard,” said Johnson.

Aside from their perfect 5-0 record, the Angels, the league’s top spiking, serving and receiving squad, have yet to drop a set this conference.

It has been a roller coaster campaign for BanKo-Perlas, which currently sits at No. 4 with a 2-3 card and a game ahead of fifth-running Motolite (1-4).
