CIGNAL HD rallied from a set down to outlast Go For Gold-Air Force, 26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-7, and annex the Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference late Sunday before an overflow crowd at the Paco Arena.
The HD Spikers swept the best-of-three series, 2-0, with Marck Espejo winning the Finals MVP honors with a solid 28-point, 24-reception outing in the clincher.
“Sabi pa lang from the start, kahit anong mangyari, kahit na lumamang yung kalaban wala tayong ibang gagawin. Gagawa tayo ng history,” said Cignal coach Dexter Clamor.
“Sabi ko una pa lang, ‘Let’s make history lang. Mananalo at mananalo tayo.’”
Jude Garcia contributed 19 points, including two blocks, while Ysay Marasigan and JP Bugaoan each scored 13 markers for the HD Spikers.
Cignal HD put the fight out of its opponents by building a 6-2 advantage and never looked back.
Best Setter winner Vince Mangulaban tossed in 35 excellent sets, while Best Libero awardee Manuel Sumanguid came through with 19 receptions and 16 digs.
Bryan Bagunas led the Jet Spikers with 25 points while conference MVP Ranran Abdilla had three service aces to finish with 17 hits.
Meanwhile, PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters were awarded the bronze despite ending their best-of-three series with Sta. Elena in a 1-1 stalemate due to superior quotient.
A native of Tawi-Tawi, Abdilla was also hailed as the 1st Best Open Spiker, while Espejo, was given the 2nd Best Open Spiker plum in a short ceremony before Game 2.
