D-League: Saints, Soldiers eye 2nd wins

BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare and Asia’s Lashes Tomas Morato shoot for second straight wins against separate foes today in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena.

The Saints gun for a share of top spot in Group B when they battle Hyperwash at 3:30 p.m., while the Soldiers take on a retooled Centro Escolar University side for a piece of the Group A lead at 5:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, former PBA champion Jonas Villanueva makes his coaching debut with iWalk as the newcomers take on AMA Online Education at 1:30 p.m.

Last week, BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare opened its campaign with an impressive 114-81 romp of Alberei, while Asia’s Lashes debuted with a pulsating 106-105 win over AMA.

The Saints are slightly favored over the Vipers, who suffered a sound 71-92 beating from the hands of Technological Institute of the Philippines last Monday.

This cannot be said on the Soldiers, as the Scorpions will usher in a new era with a lot of promise.

CEU is coming off a runner-up finish to Cignal-Ateneo in the Aspirants’ Cup.  What’s remarkable was the Scorpions managed to go all the way to the Finals despite being reduced to eight men due to game-fixing allegations.

And the program has seemingly recovered since that big blow as CEU will unveil a complete lineup, surrounded by Senegalese big man Malick Diouf and Rich Guinitaran.

“We are ready to put the past conference behind and start anew this Foundation Cup,” said Scorpions coach Derrick Pumaren.

Asia’s Lashes will be count on James Martinez, Adrian Celada, and Levi Dela Cruz.

“Sana matuluy-tuloy namin ’yung panalo namin,” said Grey, a former deputy of coach Pido Jarencio and Jerry Codiñera in the collegiate leagues.
