THE Philippine Volleyball Federation (PVF), headed by Edgardo “Boy” Cantada”, is the only legitimate sports association for volleyball in the country.
And the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) should accept this truth “once and for all for good of volleyball.”
This was stressed by Cantada himself following information that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), the world’s governing body in the sport, refused to expel the PVF as an original member in good standing during the recent 36th World Congress in Cancun, Mexico.
“The ball is now on POC’s hand,” said Cantada in an interview with People’s Tonight the other day.
“Nag-desisyon na ang FIVB kaya nararapat lamang itong kilalanin ng POC kasabay ang pagkilos na bigyan kami ng karapatan na dingin ang aming isyu sa General Assembly,” added Cantada.
“Kung magka-botohan ang GA at kami ay pinatatalsik, magpapasalamat pa kami dahil dumaan kami sa proseso,”
Added Cantada: “The PVF has waited long enough. It is willing to be investigated by the POC and judged by its peers in the General Assembly. Let us all be gentlemen here, we owe Philippine sports a show of true fairness and justice.”
In the last World Congress in Cancun last Nov. 24. the FIVB decided to dismiss the petition of the LVPI to take the place of PVF as regular member following the failure to muster the required 2/3 votes to expel a member.
Cantada said only 109 members out of 200 members voted to remove the PVF while 40 voted to keep it.
Another 28 mobesr abtained from voting.
“This only shows that they failed to muster enough bvotes – or 2/3 votes – to expel a member,” explaine Cantada.
“Now, the POC under Mr. (Ricky) Vargas owe it to the hundreds of thousands of school children and sports educators all over the country to act on the PVF case not soon but now,” said Cantada.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. The POC should be among the first to adhere to this line, since the POC officials surely knows the value and meaning of sportsmanship.”
Cantada also thanked FIVB for maintaining integrity in the sport.
“The PVF would like to thank the FIVB members for showing the world that honorable sportsmen still exist. Now we wish the POC can emulate this noble act of the FIVB.”
It can be recalled that the POC, then under President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco, withdrew recognition to the PVF.
