Suspected gunrunner killed in Pampanga shootout

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – A suspected gunrunner was killed during a shootout with the police in the San Fernando City, this province Monday night.

Brig. Gen. Valeriano De Leon identified the slain suspect as Edison Paras, a resident of Bgy. Dolores in the said city.

Initial investigation showed that prior to the shootout, joint personnel of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, Pampanga PPO and City of San Fernando Police Station conducted a buy-bust for loose firearms against Paras.

Sensing that he was dealing with lawmen, the suspect immediately fired upon the operative prompting other lawmen to return fire that caused Paras to sustain gunshot wounds.

Police said the suspect was rushed to the nearest hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

Recovered were a cal. .45 “paltik” pistol without serial number, a transparent sachet containing shabu worth P4,000, three live ammunition and 15 deformed slugs for cal. 45.

De Leon commended the operating troops “for a job well done” and assured that the PRO3 will continue its campaign to eradicate all forms of criminality particularly illegal drugs and loose firearms within the region in line with the directives of PNP Chief Gen. Debold Sinas.
