THE Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) has submitted a resolution to the Inter- Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) asking President Rodrigo Duterte to temporarily suspend all demolitions and evictions that might be initiated amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
PCUP Chairman and CEO Alvin S. Feliciano said he wants to make sure that there will no demolition and eviction while we the country is still battling the pandemic.
Many demolitions and evictions that were reported to be illegal and questionable have recently taken place. This is the reason why PCUP immediately created a resolution that suspends the conduct of any demolitionsand eviction.
In a statement, Commissioner Melvin P. Mitra, who is author of the said resolution, said that it focuses on the temporary suspension of all administrative demolitions and evictions happening during this time of a pandemic.
It was also approved and favored by Commissioner Randy H. Halasan, Commissioner Norman B. Baloro, and Commissioner Romeo H. Jandugan.
“Paano mag stay at home kung na demolish o nagiba na ang kanilang bahay?,” Feliciano added.
This PCUP Resolution is in support of the Memorandum Circular No. 2020-068 issued by the DILG stating that administrative demolitions are temporarily suspended while the country is under a National State of Health Emergency.
PCUP hopes that the submitted resolution will be approved in order to give housing security to poor communities.
PCUP also assures that no rights of any member of poor communities will be violated especially in regard to issues concerning demolition and eviction activities.
