Cagayan de Oro City – The participants gathered at the South Concourse of Limketkai Mall, all sporting their running gear and determination, to take part in the “TAKBO PARA SA WEST PHILIPPINE SEA SERIES.” This unique running event, organized by the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea in partnership with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and Runrio Inc., aimed to raise awareness and support for our nation’s sovereignty in the contested region. The event was supported by PIA Director General Jose Torres, Jr. and NTF WPS Spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela.

The “TAKBO PARA SA WEST PHILIPPINE SEA SERIES” aimed to enhance awareness about protecting our nation’s territorial integrity through a series of three fun runs in Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro. Open to participants of all ages, the event promoted both physical fitness and community spirit.

Under the supervision of City Jail Warden JSUPT William T. Manengyao, DPA, and with the presence of BJMP Regional Office 10, led by JCSUPT Cesar M. Langawin, the event garnered overwhelming support from both participants and spectators. Representing the region, JSSUPT Samuel E. Palionay Jr., OIC Regional Chief of Directorial Staff of the Jail Bureau, together with JINSP Lyn M. Bernil from the Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Female Dormitory, showcased the unity and determination of the local community.

The race consisted of various categories, including 2k, 5k, 10k, and 16k, appealing to runners of different skill levels. It was an exhilarating experience for all involved, as they pushed their limits to achieve personal goals while simultaneously supporting a bigger cause. The race was participated in by thousands.

Among the participants, JO1 Joseph R. Sabud of CDOCJ-MD showcased his exceptional skills and determination, securing the 7th spot in the highly competitive 10k category. His outstanding performance not only added to the excitement of the event but also served as an inspiration to fellow runners.

Through the “TAKBO PARA SA WEST PHILIPPINE SEA SERIES,” the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea, in collaboration with its partners, successfully amplified the importance of national sovereignty and physical fitness. This event has undoubtedly made a lasting impact on the participants and the wider community, reminding us all of the significance of safeguarding our country’s territorial integrity.
