Teener yields gun, drugs in Navotas

A SURVEILLANCE operation being conducted by intelligence operatives against wanted persons led to the arrest of a young man caught in possession of a handgun and illegal drugs Tuesday evening in Navotas City.

Navotas police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas said elements of the Station Intelligence Branch (SID) led by P/Lt, Luis Rufo, Jr. were conducting monitoring and surveillance operations against top 10 most wanted persons along Bagong Kalsada St., Bgy. Tangos when they chanced upon Kyle Dela Pena, 18, resident in the area, who was carrying a black sling bag and acting suspiciously at around 9:30 p.m.

When frisked, the suspect yielded an unlicensed caliber .38 revolver loaded with two live bullets, eight heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing 35 grams of shabu with standard drug price amounting to P238,000.00 and 16 small plastic sachets containing 15 grams of dried marijuana leaves worth P1,800.

Balasabas said policemen informed Dela Pena of his constitutional rights in the language he fully understood but the latter refused to comment and opted to remain silent.

The suspect was presented by P/Cpl. Eldefonso Torio, officer-on-case, for inquest proceedings before the Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office on charges for possession of shabu and marijuana under Article II of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act and violation of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition Act.
