We are disappointed that the Senate saw it fit to pass Senate Bill No. 2793 which seeks to promote the gas industry in the country. We hope that the senators would reconsider in light of the well-known downsides of using fossil fuels. These downsides include emissions that exacerbate the climate emergency, uncertainty of sourcing supplies from overseas, and unreasonably high price of electricity for consumers.
With the impending onslaught of typhoon Marce over the same areas hit by typhoon Kristine, geopolitical tensions that may affect the ability of markets to obtain gas, and record profits of energy companies in light of increased burdens on electricity users, the Senate would do well to reject this bill and instead focus on hastening the transition to completely indigenous renewable energy sources.
