Thousands cheer up as Christmas light opening bring lights to the sky in Roxas, Isabela

ROXAS, Isabela – At least 5,000 people trooped to the place to watch the caroling and later the Christmas lighting, wherein giant canes, cakes, decorations, reindeers ang other designs wowed the crowd, mostly at the mistletoe lane and at the holiday-themed park on December 5 at 8 in the evening.

“Christmas is here, the people enjoy holidays as we rise up from the calamities, because we are resilient.” Mayor Benedict Calderon said.

Villager Miriam Taganas, 35, said the designs have been thrilling to see “as various ornaments are different every year.”

A fireworks display also marked the lighting rites.

The event has also marked the first-ever caroling competition. Garbed with colorful costumes and sparkling ornaments, five contingents of Christmas carolers serenaded villagers with various holiday songs to cap the formal lighting of this town’s giant lanterns and decorations.

Groups from the local government, academe, and other non-government groups competed in the caroling contest, which netter P15,000 for the champion while the second took P10,000, third got P5,000 and consolation prizes of P3,000 each for the losing groups. (VILL GIDEON VISAYA)
