A fire hit a two-storey residential building in Sta. Mesa, Manila, leaving three minor girls who happen to be sisters, dead.

The victims were aged seven to 16 and their names have been withheld in the meantime.

A report from the Manila Police District (MPD)-Sta. Mesa Police Station 8 (PS-8) said that the fire broke out at 5:12 p.m. at the second floor of the said building located at Guadalcanal Street in Sta. Mesa and owned by one ‘Ginalinda Reyes.’

The said fire reached first alarm and was declared ‘fire out’ at 5:58 p.m.

Barangay Chairman Francisco Blanco of Barangay 597 said thick smoke prevented the parents from entering their home, even as the firemen themselves found it hard to do so.

Meanwhile, authorities are still investigating to establish what caused the fire which left an estimated P30,000 damage to property.
