A vehicle from a transport network vehicle services (TNVS) or more commonly known as ride-hailing services, rammed into a metal railing at the NAIA Terminal 2 arrival area after its driver was accosted by security personnel since he was in a no loading zone.
Luckily, no one was harmed in the incident that took place on January 6, at around 3 p.m. at the northwing arrival area’s bay A13 of the said terminal.
A report from the office of Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Eric Jose Ines said that the vehicle suddenly accelerated and rammed several luggage before finally stopping after hitting the metal railings in the said area. Its two foreign passengers were unharmed.
Immediately, medical personnel from the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) arrived in the area to provide medical assessment while PIID Intel/Operatives responded to the area to gather information.
Ines said that while they were conducting pre-deployment briefing, a loud thud caused by impact was heard at the arrival area from their office, prompting personnel from the airport police department to respond immediately.
Upon arrival at the scene, they found the Mitsubishi Xpander GLX (Silver) bearing plate no. NKM 2219 and which was being driven by one Felimon, Jr., a resident of Quezon City, that had just rammed the metal protection barrier along the sidewalk at arrival bay A13.
Further probe showed that the said vehicle was utilized as a Grab transport service and was supposed to pick-up passengers at the said area when the vehicle went out of control.
Based on the CCTV footage, it was revealed that the involved vehicle was initially observed at the arrival’s inner lane when the same suddenly went wayward and caused damage in the area.
While the incident did not cause any physical harm or injury, a Mitsubishi Adventure bearing plate no. NAB 6020 and driven by Arlee Samudio of Laguna sustained dents caused by the metal barrier which was hit by the subject vehicle driven by Felimon.
The scene was cleared on the same day and the subject vehicle and other involved parties were brought in for further investigation and appropriate action.
