Tondo fire leaves senior couple and relative dead, three fire volunteers and one other wounded

FIRE hit a residential area in Tondo, Manila on Thursday night, leaving a senior citizen couple dead along with a relative and four person, three of whom are fire volunteers, wounded.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that the fatalities are a 78-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife, along with a household member aged 45, while those wounded were civilian Reynaldo De Luna, 20 and firefighters John Jerome Dumasig, 34, Pitong Gatang Fire Volunteer; Rodelio Banique, 47, Sierra Fire Volunteer at Dexter Aniban, 32.

The fire that hit the area at 1:22 p.m. began at the second floor of the residence of one Loreta Flores located on R.A Reyes Street in Tondo.

It reached second alarm and was declared under control at 2:41 p.m., leaving an P800,000 estimated damage to property and razing six houses in all, displacing a total of 18 families.

The cause of fire remains unknown.
