Two human traffickers who attempted to facilitate the illegal departure and employment abroad of 13 Filipinos, mostly women, bound for Japan, were nabbed by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) stationed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3.
It was learned fro BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval that their officers at NAIA 3 intercepted the group on May 9 and the recruiters were subsequently arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation International Airport Investigation Division (NBI-IAID) the following day.
The two recruiters, a Filipina and a Japanese national, were apprehended after attempting to escort the group on a Cebu Pacific flight to Nagoya.
Prior to this, the BI received intelligence information from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) about their suspected illegal recruitment activities.
Sandoval said that upon secondary inspection, the immigration officers uncovered that the 13 individuals were victims of illegal recruitment, being misled to pose as technical interns to gain employment in Japan.
Meantime, the suspects have been turned over to the IACAT for formal investigation and filing of appropriate charges against them.
