TUP gets bomb threat

THE Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) received a bomb threat yesterday morning, sent through text messages to a cellphone of one of its students.

The text messages reportedly said that a bomb had been planted in the TUP campus located at the corner of San Marcelino and Ayala Streets in Ermita, Manila and may go off anytime within the day.

A probe by the Manila Police District -Police Station 5 said that the student, a female, told his professor Justine Kylo Mark Orpia, 29, about the messages she received from a certain Dan Telyo.

The first message said: “Mamaya na sasabog ‘yung bomba na nakatanim sa school building ingat kayo mamaya. sa mga papasok sa Ermita TUP Manila.”

This was followed up with another message at 5:58 a.m. that stated: “sasabog ang TUP mamayang 7 a.m. mag ingat kayo.”

Orpia showed the messages to the security guard of TUP, Rolando Duyag who, in turn, reported the matter to the MPD-Explosive and Ordnance Division.

Moments later, operatives from the EOD arrived with K9 dogs and an inspection was done starting at the TUP College of Industrial Education Building.

At 8:05 a.m., PMSg Ernesto Rivera of the MPD- EOD declred the campus as negative for bomb or any other explosive materials.
